February 3338 - Unlimited Chrono (6th Birthday Series)

Highlighting the February 3338 Birthday (7) unlimited Chrono

One could reasonably have expected the birthday festivities to be over by now. But the Gaming authorities launched yet another event, and a Chrono at that.

Bleary eyed Commanders, many woken from some desperately needed sleep trickled in to try for a last prize.
Many of the latecomers faced an (almost) impossible challenge as the climb was short and those who had arrived early had gotten lots of points already.

I was heavily sedated back in the compound, but a later look through of team members footage let me figure out the winners of this event had been:

[Highest leveled Commander in Division]

  • Div 1 [358] (26 Commanders): Dexter Berry, Warlock (+340)
  • Div 2 [232] (8 Commanders): Mike Wach, Black Star Thundering Herd (+360)
  • Div 3 [166] (23 Commanders): James Waddington, T.B. BlackWatch (+3470)
  • Div 4 [123] (23 Commanders): Justin Bertelli, Phoenix (+3170)
  • Div 5 [95] (18 Commanders): Eric Simard, HF: Dragoons (+1010)
  • Div 6 [72] (9 Commanders): Brian Wilson, Smurf War Patrol (+3720)
  • Div 7 [63] (13 Commanders): Mortem Orbisque, Emerald Dragons (+2790)
  • Div 8 [44] (14 Commanders): Lisa Linley, clown clan (+1400)
  • Div 9 [31] (9 Commanders): Douglas Rainey, Punishers Guild (+5790)
  • Div 10 [21] (3 Commanders): Curtiss Grenci (+850)
  • Div 11 [17] (5 Commanders): Dan Wing (+1860)
  • Div 12 [7] (3 Commanders): Na Len (+1690)

Total Contestants: 154, Total medals claimed: 124 (of 180 possible)

The rallying of Commanders for this, the last, birthday event resulted in more than a doubling of the contestants compared to the recent Blitz event. Ninety-five more answered the call to arms and that was enough to overfill four tops.
But participation was very uneven, the three lowest tops between them had less than half the number of contestants that K3 and K4 sported, and they weren't even the biggest.
The result was predictable, four Silvers and fifty-two Bronzes ended up unclaimed.

Highest score achieved in the event was on K9 where Douglas Rainey from Punishers Guild got the 18 750 that follows from standing on the top for fifteen consecutive score rounds. He also had the highest margin to the runner up, 5790, an impressive feat indeed.
Lowest score needed to get a medal was 960 for a Bronze on K9.

Only four Commanders won by more than 3000 Points, while two had margins of less than 400. The struggle for lesser prizes varied. in the final moments we had these differences between the medal tiers in this event:

......Silver to Bronze..Bronze to nothing
Div 1 ......2370...…......…….80
Div 2 ......1860...…......…..N/A
Div 3 ...…..520...…......…..560
Div 4 ...…..280...….........1080
Div 5 ...…..480...…......……20
Div 6 .......1210...…......…..N/A
Div 7 ...….2480...…......…..N/A
Div 8 …....2090...…......…..N/A
Div 9 ...…...680...…......…..N/A
Div 10 …....N/A...…......…..N/A
Div 11 …....N/A...……...…..N/A
Div 12 ……N/A...……….....N/A

Admittedly a weak statistic, since almost half the entrants are empty. But once again one sees the importance of showing up early, some Bronzes were determined by less than 100 points.

No clan got more than one Gold in this event. The three lowest tops were owned by unaligned Commanders:
Curtiss Grenci on K10, Dan Wing on K11 and Na Len on K12.
Two of the Blitz winners secured a follow up Gold:
Justin Bertelli of Phoenix and Douglas Rainey of Punishers Guild.

February 3338 - Blitz (6th Birthday Series)

Highlighting the February 3338 Birthday (6) Blitz

The mood of the crowd was festivity, but also tired. Five climbs in a very short time, two of them Chronos, take their toll on both Mechs and men.
Add in numerous Circuit Challenges and liberal amounts of alcoholic beverage and you are approaching saturation.

Still, there were games to be held, this time it was a short, unlimited Blitz. The few who were still standing shambled towards the arena. There massive doses of hatoraides transformed them into berserk killing machines, at least for a while.

I wasn't there, the med staff had grabbed me and taken me back to the infirmary. I went along willingly, but only after I had been promised some footage from the event.
Going through it now I see the winners were:

[Highest leveled Commander in Division]
  • Div 1 [358] (10 Commanders): Jeff Haas, Warlock (16m,12s)
  • Div 2 [256] (4 Commanders): Bob Schlomer, Spirit of Bunny (37m,57s)
  • Div 3 [152] (3 Commanders): Jim Prockter, Death`s Brethren (29m,56s)
  • Div 4 [142] (4 Commanders): Steve Nanning, Northwind Dragons (5m,10s)
  • Div 5 [111] (5 Commanders): Justin Bertelli, Phoenix (8m)
  • Div 6 [85] (6 Commanders): Craig Robb, mad pork bbq2 (1m,18s)
  • Div 7 [69] (5 Commanders): Map Chap, Smurf War Patrol (5m,41s)
  • Div 8 [57] (7 Commanders): Baron Fish, T.B. 1st K. Highlanders (19m,4s)
  • Div 9 [40] (10 Commanders): Recoil, JC`s Rowdy Bunch (4m,40s)
  • Div 10 [29] (8 Commanders): Douglas Rainey, Punishers Guild (4m,37s)
  • Div 11 [22] (4 Commanders): Michael Arnold, Ex Angels 2(26m,3s)
  • Div 12 [4] (3 Commanders): Alfredo Mendez (38m,2s)

Total Contestants: 69, Total medals claimed: 69 (of 180 possible)

The festivities were definitively taking a massive toll. Compared to the recent Selfsame we lost more than half the contestants (77 to be exact).
No tops were fully manned, in fact less than half of them had Commanders competing for Bronzes. As a result seven Silvers in addition to hundred-and-four Bronzes were sent for resmelting.

While the number of contestants were low, the fighting spirit among those who showed up were fierce. Ten Golds changed hands the last half-hour, and none were held past the three-quarter-hour mark.
This fighting spirit was not limited to just the Gold fights, in fact it was one of the most ferocious events ever. Just look at the low number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:

.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....0 of 4.........0 of 5
Div 2 ....0 of 3.....…...N/A
Div 3 ....0 of 2...….….N/A
Div 4 ....0 of 3...….….N/A
Div 5 ....0 of 4...….….N/A
Div 6 ....2 of 4.........0 of 1
Div 7 ....1 of 4...….….N/A
Div 8 ....0 of 4.........0 of 2
Div 9 ....0 of 4.........0 of 5
Div 10 ..0 of 4.........0 of 3
Div 11 ..0 of 3...….….N/A
Div 12 ..1 of 2...……..N/A

A total of six medals from four tops were held, out of sixty-nine. That is less than nine percent !!

Yet again an event where no clan secured more than one Gold. The sole unaligned winner this time was Alfredo Mendez on K12. We also had a repeat winner here. Jim Prockter from Death`s Brethren triumphed yet again.

February 3338 - Selfsame Chrono (6th Birthday Series)

Highlighting the February 3338 Birthday (5) Selfsame Chrono

Could be some of the revelers wanted to get some off-top festivities done as well. After all, we had already had a Chrono, right?

But the Gaming Authorities threw a curve ball. Not only did they launch another Chrono, they made it a Selfsame as well.

As word spread, more or less inbred Commanders staggered toward their bases to cobble together a formation and compete. Some showed up a bit, or many bits late, others may have fallen asleep in the hangars while the Techs worked.

I was doing a brisk business selling weapons outside, but a friend had promised me enough footage to tell you the winners this time had been:

[Highest leveled Commander in Division]

  • Div 1 [358] (19 Commanders): Terry Cole, Warlock (Boreas)(+490)
  • Div 2 [265] (13 Commanders): Joshua Eifort, Northwind Dragons (Humbaba)(+2050)
  • Div 3 [173] (12 Commanders): Robert C Goetz Sr, Death`s Collector`s (Boreas)(+3020)
  • Div 4 [138] (16 Commanders): Jim Prockter, Death`s Brethren (Torrent)(+3030)
  • Div 5 [110] (25 Commanders): retiredarmyman, Death`s Disturbed Asylum (Regis)(+2160)
  • Div 6 [80] (11 Commanders): Glenn Forgames, Phoenix (Antithesis)(+6740)
  • Div 7 [65] (10 Commanders): Waitai Rihari, JP`s Rowdy Bunch (Ammonite)(+1000)
  • Div 8 [47] (13 Commanders): Rick_Howes, Heroes Light Brigade (Oggun)(+5050)
  • Div 9 [36] (13 Commanders): Sophie Hall, clown clan (Commissar)(+2770)
  • Div 10 [27] (6 Commanders): Harvey Brown, Atlanteans (iMech)(+1070)
  • Div 11 [15] (5 Commanders): Bobby Potter (iMech)(+250)
  • Div 12 [4] (3 Commanders): Serenes Forest (War Horse)(+2040)

Total Contestants: 146, Total medals claimed: 131 (of 180 possible)

Most winning Mech was a split honor this time. None will be much surprised that the Boreas was one of them, But few would have expected the iMech to be the other.
Among the Crystal Mechs, Both the Ammonite and the Oggun also brought their Commanders Gold and glory.

As this event had some lenght, some more Commanders showed up compared to the previous Pileup. Thirty-two more to be exact. Not enough by far to fill out all the tops. The divisions were again uneven, the four smallest having fewer in total than the biggest.
A total of two Silvers and fourty-seven Bronzes were returned for resmelting.

Highest score achieved in this event belonged to Glenn Forgames of Phoenix on K6. His score of 20 000 showed he was on the top for 16 consecutive score rounds. He also had the greatest margin to the runner up, 6740 points.
Lowest score needed for a medal was 400 on K4.

Short Chronos like this can be pretty closely run when it comes to the lesser prizes. Here the difference between the medal tiers in this event was:

......Silver to Bronze..Bronze to nothing
Div 1 ...…..190...…......…..200
Div 2 ...…..660...…......…..N/A
Div 3 ...…..240...…......…..N/A
Div 4 .......1060...…......……40
Div 5 .......1240...….......….195
Div 6 ……..500...…......…..N/A
Div 7 .......1440...…......…..N/A
Div 8 ...…...360...…......…..N/A
Div 9 ……..560...…......…..N/A
Div 10 .….5520...…......…..N/A
Div 11 …....N/A...…......…..N/A
Div 12 …....N/A...………….N/A

Admittedly, on many tops there was not a lot contestants, but margins in the low two and three digits shows the importance of showing up early.

This was another event where no clan managed to secure more than one Gold. Two unaligned winners; Bobby Potter on K11 and Serenes Forest on K12 might have contributed to this. None of the Pileup winners managed a follow up win.

February 3338 - Progressive Pileup (6th Birthday Series)

Highlighting the February 3338 Birthday (4) Pileup

Some events are made different than others. In this it wasn't about having nice even lines. Here you piled up Mechs. 1 in the Frontline, two in the second and so on...

Many Commanders seemed to have some trouble understanding such instructions. In fact, the level of alcohol in their bloodstreams from all the partying might have been a contributing factor to them wandering in a wrong direction and therefore the lessened participation.

As for me, I was busy peddling Fury Lasers, and didn't have the time or inclination to show up. A friend had promised to bring me the needed footage. It took a while to get it, but from the frames that weren't over exposed it seemed the winners this time were:

[Highest leveled Commander in Division]
  • Div 1 [357] (18 Commanders): Dexter Berry, Warlock (40m,9s)
  • Div 2 [199] (13 Commanders): George Warren, Northwind Dragons (1h,59m)
  • Div 3 [144] (22 Commanders): Theo Peeples (1h,3m)
  • Div 4 [110] (13 Commanders): Peli Huijari, Smurf Platoon (1h,7m)
  • Div 5 [87] (17 Commanders): John Ringo, Steampunk Dragons (2h,44m)
  • Div 6 [66] (4 Commanders): Joshua D. Thatcher, Black Star Thundering Herd (2h,50m)
  • Div 7 [54] (9 Commanders): Dustin Fisher, Heroes Light Brigade (2h,7m)
  • Div 8 [40] (4 Commanders): KiloTone Recoil. JC`s Rowdy Bunch (2h,46m)
  • Div 9 [29] (5 Commanders): Valafar Dem, Borg (15m,47s)
  • Div 10 [18] (4 Commanders): Wile_E_Coyote, Jagdstaffel 2(1h,51m)
  • Div 11 [13] (2 Commanders): Edward Cliff (1h,34m)
  • Div 12 [7] (3 Commanders): Serge Rioux (1h,42m)

Total Contestants: 114, Total medals claimed: 102 (of 180 possible)

Compared to the recent Rainbow this wasn't a great success.
Fourty-eight fewer Commanders showed up, and the divisions were really skewed this time. All the contestants on the five lowest tops together was barely a match for the number who had entered Mount Olympus, and K3 had even more climbers.
This led to huge gaps during the medal ceremony, and a total of eight Silvers and seventy Bronzes from nine tops being sent for resmelting.

The last half-hour saw some action, but mostly those who had claimed the tops withstood all advances. The exception was K9 where Valafar Dem managed to take the top.
Otherwise, well, look at the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:

.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....1 of 4.........3 of 10
Div 2 ....4 of 4.........7 of 8
Div 3 ....2 of 4.........1 of 10
Div 4 ....2 of 4.........5 of 8
Div 5 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 6 ....3 of 3......…...N/A
Div 7 ....2 of 4.........2 of 2
Div 8 ....3 of 3......…...N/A
Div 9 ....3 of 4......…...N/A
Div 10 ..3 of 3......…...N/A
Div 11 ..1 of 1......…...N/A
Div 12 ..2 of 2......…...N/A

Mount Olympus and K3 had a free flowing action where most of the medals changed hands. Some struggling on K4 and K7 in addition to a latecomer arriving on K2. The other seven tops had no successful attacks.

No single clan managed to bring home more than one Gold.
Perhaps not surprising, we had after all a trio of independent winners; Theo Peeples on K3, Edward Cliff on K11 and Serge Rioux on K12.
The sole repeat winner this time was Peli Huijari.

February 3338 - Rainbow (6th Birthday Series)

Highlighting the February 3338 Birthday (3) Rainbow

According to some ancient legends, the rainbow is a symbol of peace and a promise of end of strife. According to other legends it is supposed to lead you to some Gold.

To give some festivity light and show the peacefulness of the competitions, the gaming authorities decided to have a Rainbow event.

Admittedly, some tops were more peaceful than others. On some others the competition to get a Gold, or any other prize for that matter, resulted in shots being fired and Mechs (temporarily) downed.

My contributions here was almost non-existent. What I did was charge one of my team mates with going there and get me some footage and notes.
When I looked through them later I found the winners had been:

[Highest leveled Commander in Division]
  • Div 1 [357] (19 Commanders): Fabio Favaro, Warlock (2m,26s)
  • Div 2 [275] (15 Commanders): Justin Verret, Leviathan (1h,16m)
  • Div 3 [180] (7 Commanders): Joshua Eifort, Northwind Dragons (6h,58m)
  • Div 4 [148] (20 Commanders): John Thorson, Northwind Dragons (6h,54m)
  • Div 5 [118] (28 Commanders): Peli Huijari, Smurf War Patrol (4m,34s)
  • Div 6 [91] (15 Commanders): Shawn Lindsell, HF: Dragoons (4h,51m)
  • Div 7 [71] (15 Commanders): John D, Death`s Curse (4h,9m)
  • Div 8 [57] (13 Commanders): Jesse Launda, M.P.A. "Rangers" (6h,10m)
  • Div 9 [36] (12 Commanders): Mal Wheedon, Night Hammers (3h,25m)
  • Div 10 [28] (9 Commanders): Rick Sask, Borg (6h,24m)
  • Div 11 [] (0 Commanders): ()
  • Div 12 [14] (9 Commanders): Rafael Trzeciak (4h,59m)

Total Contestants: 162, Total medals claimed: 140 (of 180 possible)

Compared to the Birthday Chrono we had nearly a doubling of the number of contestants (74 more showed up here)
Unfortunately the divisions were set up in a way that made them pretty uneven, K3 + K10 +K 12 had between them fewer contestants than K5 alone, and K11 was totally devoid of participants.
This resulted in one Gold, four Silvers and thirty-five bronzes being sent back for resmelting.

The last half hour saw just two Golds change hands. Eight of the remaining nine were held for more than two hours.
That is not to say it was a dead event. Some brisk struggling took place for the lesser prizes, as one can see from the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:

.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....1 of 4.........7 of 10
Div 2 ....0 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 3 ....4 of 4.........2 of 2
Div 4 ....4 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 5 ....0 of 4.........3 of 10
Div 6 ....3 of 4.........6 of 10
Div 7 ....3 of 4.........6 of 10
Div 8 ....4 of 4.........6 of 8
Div 9 ....4 of 4.........5 of 7
Div 10 ..2 of 4.........3 of 4
Div 11 ….N/A......…..N/A
Div 12 ..4 of 4.........4 of 4

The most action filled top, and the only one where more than half the medals changed hands was K5. Action on the other tops was less intense, and on K3 there wasn't even one successful attack.

Northwind Dragons was the sole clan to claim a double Gold this time. They did so by laying claim to K3 and K4.
No unaligned winners managed to triumph here, neither did any of the Chrono winners get a follow up win.

February 3338 - Chrono (6th Birthday Series)

Highlighting the February 3338 Birthday 2

Sometimes the gaming authorities throw a spammer in the works.
Here they launched an unlimited Chrono during the festivities. And a really short one to boot, just 8 score rounds.

I was away and busy doing exercises, but I managed to get a bootleg copy of the fighting. Not much, just enough to see the winners this time had been:

[Highest leveled Commander in Division]
  • Div 1 [357] (15 Commanders): Fabio Favaro, Warlock (+430)
  • Div 2 [206] (4 Commanders): Caitlyn Mainer, Avengers of Bunny (+240)
  • Div 3 [151] (14 Commanders): George Warren, Northwind Dragons (+2560)
  • Div 4 [111] (10 Commanders): Chris Page, Death`s Disturbed Asylum (+1240)
  • Div 5 [84] (5 Commanders): Brian Wilson, Smurf War Patrol (+1360)
  • Div 6 [69] (9 Commanders): Naehan Montales, Smurf War Patrol (+1910)
  • Div 7 [56] (4 Commanders): Carl Cash, Death`s Acolytes (+2440)
  • Div 8 [40] (10 Commanders): DZHowes, Night Hammers (+720)
  • Div 9 [30] (8 Commanders): Dizzy Cat, Borg (+40)
  • Div 10 [20] (4 Commanders): Nico Lest, cylons vs bot 2 (+340)
  • Div 11 [16] (2 Commanders): Bugz Ono (+340)
  • Div 12 [10] (3 Commanders): Daniel Luques (+510)

Total Contestants: 88, Total medals claimed: 88 (of 180 possible)
It could be that some of those returning late to the tournament field and saw it was a Chrono elected to sit this event out.

The number of contestants was anyway reduced by eleven compared to the first birthday event, and as a result eight Silvers and eighty-four Bronzes was returned for resmelting.

A trio of Commanders; Carl Cash from Death`s Acolytes on K7, Smurf War Patrol`s Brian Wilson on K5 and George Warren from Northwind Dragons on K3 managed to join up immediately and keep the top positions against all comers.
George Warren also had the highest margin to the runner up, 2560 points.
Lowest margin was on K9 where Dizzy Cat from Borg had a mere 40 points advantage
Lowest score needed to get a medal this time was 0. That was enough for a Bronze on K3 and a Silver on K5.

Otherwise, the margins between the medal tiers in this event was:

.....Silver to Bronze....Bronze to nothing
Div 1 ….…..80......…….N/A
Div 2 ...…..N/A......…….N/A
Div 3 …...1960......…….N/A
Div 4 ...…..200......…….N/A
Div 5 ...…..N/A......…….N/A
Div 6 ...…..600......…….N/A
Div 7 ...…..N/A......…….N/A
Div 8 .......2160......…….N/A
Div 9 ...…...600......…….N/A
Div 10 …....N/A......…….N/A
Div 11 …....N/A......…….N/A
Div 12 …....N/A......…….N/A

Not a lot, and shows again that the early joiner have a big advantage, especially when the Chronos are as short as this one.

Smurf War Patrol was the only clan to get multiple Gold. They secured the top prize from both K5 and K6.
Two unaligned Commanders took the two lowest tops:
Bugz Ono on K11 and Daniel Luques on K12.
George Warren got Kicked up one top and managed a second win in a row. So did Brian Wilson, but he was kicked up TWO tops.

Bugz Ono is one of the real veterans here in Mecha Galaxy
His first appearance in the climbs was as far back as the King of the Mountain II back in June `62. But after the Red Ant Rush in May `67 he withdrew from competitions, until he resurfaced in this Birthday event and won his first Gold.
At Level 15 he probably uses the 9-Mech Egeria base.
His energy Budget is 30, he have Advanced his mastery of cannons a bit and can safely pilot a Megazome.

February 3338 - King of the Mountain (6th Birthday Series)

Highlighting the February 3338 Birthday 1 KotM

Ah. Birthday festivities. A long celebration where those who were up and around could compete for prices and honor.

I was not among them. As the first unlimited climb were launched I was still in a hospital bed getting intensive muscle building stimulus.

Luckily some friends sent me get well Cards and footage from the match to while away the time. I did and saw the winners had been:

[Highest leveled Commander in Division]
  • Div 1 [357] (14 Commanders): Dexter Berry, Warlock (6m,33s)
  • Div 2 [284] (5 Commanders): John T Mainer, Spirit of Bunny(2m,49s)
  • Div 3 [193] (8 Commanders): Mk, Matthews, Death`s Brethren (20m,41s)
  • Div 4 [149] (12 Commanders): George Warren, Northwind Dragons (46m,40s)
  • Div 5 [121] (10 Commanders): David Sifford, T.B. BlackWatch (1h,45m)
  • Div 6 [93] (6 Commanders): Eric Simard, HF: Dragoons(1h,56m)
  • Div 7 [75] (9 Commanders): Brian Wilson, Smurf War Patrol (1h,36m)
  • Div 8 [60] (8 Commanders): Carl Cash, Death`s Acolytes (16m,48s)
  • Div 9 [41] (7 Commanders): Bobs Uruncal (22m,39s)
  • Div 10 [35] (11 Commanders): Pat Kash, Karma (1h,39m)
  • Div 11 [28] (7 Commanders): Valafar Dem, Borg (9m,23s)
  • Div 12 [12] (2 Commanders): Kari Amee, Gear Heads (1h,41m)

Total Contestants: 99, Total medals claimed: 99 (of 180 possible)

Compared to the Quad Rainbow just before this first birthday event, we actually had a small influx of additional Commanders, six more showed up.
But nowhere near enough to claim all the Medals. Three Silvers and eighty Bronzes were returned for resmelting.

The last half-hour saw half of the Golds change hands, none were held as long as two hours.
Struggles for lesser medals were of varying intensity, as evidenced by the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:

.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....3 of 4.........4 of 9
Div 2 ....3 of 4......…..N/A
Div 3 ....2 of 4.........1 of 3
Div 4 ....2 of 4.........6 of 7
Div 5 ....1 of 4.........1 of 5
Div 6 ....4 of 4.........1 of 1
Div 7 ....3 of 4.........3 of 4
Div 8 ....3 of 4.........2 of 3
Div 9 ....1 of 4.........0 of 2
Div 10 ..1 of 4.........0 of 6
Div 11 ..3 of 4.........2 of 2
Div 12 ..1 of 1......…..N/A

Five tops (Mount Olympus not among them) saw at least half the medals in new hands, while only two tops had no successful attacks.

No clan managed to claim more than one Gold each here. The sole unaligned winner was Bobs Uruncal on K9. Dexter Berry managed as the only Quad winner to secure a follow up Gold.

Bobs Uruncal have been around for quite a while. The first appearance in the KOTM annals was the July`17 unlimited where he secured a Bronze. Since then he have had infrequent Returns, and good sized absences where he probably have been on Pirate hunting. But he returned for the Birthday festivities and secured his first Gold ever.
Having reached level 41 he is probably based on Euphrosyne where a 15 Mech formation is standard.
He have a pretty big energy budget (66), favors lasers and Missiles, have some additional armor on the Mechs and can safely pilot a Megazome.
